The CMS at a glance

The CMS (Content Management System) is where you manage your website. You open it by adding /panel to your website’s address. Everything you change and save in the CMS appears on the website.

  • The dashboard (the CMS home page). Here you see the pages of your website and, on most websites, the general settings too, such as SEO, contact details or the content of global blocks.
  • Tabs at the top. Large pages are split over several tabs, for example Content and Metadata & SEO. So do look at the other tabs as well.
  • The menu. The menu icon at the top left takes you to other sections, such as your account, and lets you log out.
  • The language switch, on multilingual websites only. Here you choose which language you’re editing. See Multilingual websites.
  • Click a page to open it. Subpages are found inside that page.
  • At the top there’s a path, for example Site › News › Our new office. Click part of that path to go back.
  • The search function (the magnifying glass) quickly finds a page or file.

A change only appears on the website once you click Save. As long as you haven’t saved, the CMS shows a bar with buttons to save or discard your changes.

Each field has a label that says what goes in it. Some fields have a short explanation underneath. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required: you can’t save without them.

Working on a shared computer? Always log out through the menu when you’re done.
