Formatting text

You can format text in text fields. Select some text and a toolbar appears with the options. For some fields, the toolbar sits above the field.

Button Use it for
B (bold) A single important word or phrase. Not for whole paragraphs.
I (italics) Titles of books or products, or a word you want to emphasise.
H2, H3 (heading) Subheadings that break up your text. See Using headings.
List Lists of items, like this one.
Link A reference to another page, website, email address or phone number.
  1. Select the text that will become the link.
  2. Click the link icon.
  3. Choose the type of link and fill it in:
    • a page on your own website;
    • a web address (URL), for example https://www.example.be;
    • an email address: the visitor immediately opens a new email;
    • a phone number, preferably in the form +32 9 123 45 67: on a smartphone, the visitor can call with one tap.

Write clear link text: “See our opening hours” rather than “Click here”. See Linking to your own pages.

When you copy text from Word, a PDF or an email, hidden formatting sometimes comes along. So paste as plain text:

  • Windows: Ctrl + Shift + V
  • Mac: Cmd + Shift + V

Then reapply the formatting (bold, headings, lists) with the toolbar.

  • Enter starts a new paragraph.
  • Shift + Enter starts a new line within the same paragraph, for example in an address.
